Weekly Reading - Count Your Blessings!!
Enter into His gates with thanksgiving,
         And into His courts with praise.
         Be thankful to Him, and bless His name.
  For the LORD is good;
         His mercy is everlasting,
         And His truth endures to all generations.

Psalm 100: 4-5

I remember an old hymn we used to sing when I was younger, some of you may recall. Count your Blessings, and the chorus says'
             " Count your blessings Name them one by one.
              Count your blessings See what God hath done.
               Count your blessings Name them one by one.
              Count your many blessings See what God hath done. "

It's funny how we can so easily forget, all the wondrous things, that God has done for us. The many blessings He pours upon us day by day, we tend to forget especially when we are facing trials in our lives. I'm sure you can all identify with this, sometimes it seems things are just going so wrong, there seems to be no end to all these difficulties.

I find that when I am faced with a difficult situation, I can so easily fall into a state of despair, I focus so wholly on the problem that I have completely forgotten to look up. Its at times like these we need to stop and take a breath and count our blessings as it were. Turning our focus to all that God has done for us, and counting the many blessing in our lives quickly makes us rethink the notion that there is no hope. When we remember Who our hope is in and all He has already done for us, how can we doubt what He will do for us and what He is busy accomplishing in our lives. This is the key, praising Him all the more in these times, makes us realize just how much He has done for us, how much He loves us. When we can turn and say "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." (Philippians 4:13) its here our strength is found, in Him.

We need to praise Him and thank Him every minute of every day, for every minute of every day. Praise Him for your Family, your Husband, your wife, your children. Praise Him for your friends, your neighbours, your brothers and sisters in Christ. Praise Him for your job, your house, the food on your table. Praise Him for the warmth of the sun and the coolness of the rain. Oh praise Him for everything that comes to mind, all the joys in your life, you will be surprised just how many there are. But praise Him especially because He loves you. Praise Him because once you were lost, and He found you, once you were alone and afraid and He lifted you up. And praise Him because when you were bound in all your sin, He became as nothing, despised and rejected, He died on that cross, for you.

"But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), "
Ephesians 2:4-5

It is unbelievable isn't it? Just how much He loves us, just how much He has done for us. Makes you wonder why we ever doubt Him in the first place, how we can ever give over to despair. "Count you blessings, name them one by one, Count your many blessings, see what God hath done"

You have put gladness in my heart,
         More than in the season that their grain and wine increased.
 I will both lie down in peace, and sleep;
         For You alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety.
Psalm 4:7-8
