Weekly Reading - Love One Another!
By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.
John 13:35
John 13:35
Loving one another, such a difficult thing to do sometimes. On your way to work, remembering to love the person who cut you off and making you late isn't easy or what about when you were trying to get sleep but your neighbours were having a party to all hours of the morning, its not easy to keep your thoughts of love towards them. But too often we think we can pick and choose who we love and who we give our time to, and yet God's word tells us all about loving one another.
Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God.
1 John 4:7
1 John 4:7
I remember the first time my husband and I walked into the church we now attend. There was such a feeling of love and warmth coming from all the people there, I don't think I have ever experienced such love, and for us we just felt the presence of God there. How we act and receive people, no matter where you are or what the circumstance is, we need to remember that people will remember that first meeting for the rest of their lives. We have all heard the saying first impressions last, and as followers of Jesus we need to learn to deal with people as He did. Jesus never turned anyone away, His every act was that of compassion and love. He endured the cross for us, bearing the weight and shame of our sins for us, for all this world. He didn't pick and choose, no, He loved us and died for us and rose on the third day, purchasing for us, eternal life. How then can we, as His followers, those whom He redeemed, not then give our love unselfishly to others.
Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.
1 John 4:11
1 John 4:11
We really need to put this into practice, there is so much cruelty in our world today, so much anger and so much violence. I pray that we can stand together in love, showing those in desperate need of a Saviour, just where this joy begins. We are sinners too, and God had mercy on us, and drew us toward Him and has filled our hearts with His unfailing love, let us share this with a world that is falling apart from hate.
Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing.
