Weekly Reading - Moldy Hearts
"Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”
Acts 4:12

Have you ever noticed how mold is one of the hardest things to get rid of? Even though you spend maybe an hour scrubbing at it with bleach and finally clearing it away, after only a couple of weeks you find yourself doing that same chore again.
Mold is a lot like sin. No matter how many times you try to clear it away yourself it seems only a few weeks and you're right back where you started.

When we first moved into our house, we had two bedrooms that had a terrible problem with mold. After much scrubbing and loads of bleach we finally realized that we were going to need some help with it. We went to our estate agents and they sent a professional to come and have a look and find a solution.

There is no way for us to combat sin on our own and we certainly can't save ourselves. So why do we always try? Even as Christians we are not exempt from sin. We are, unfortunately, sinful by nature and we live in a continual battle of flesh against spirit. Paul says it best when he honestly say in Romans 7:15 "For what I am doing, I do not understand. For what I will to do, that I do not practice; but what I hate, that I do." But, as Paul goes on to say, we do have a hope we have our own personal "Mold remover"

"O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? I thank God—through Jesus Christ our Lord!"
Romans 8:24-25a

What we have to remember is to be completely honest with God. Do you really think God will be surprised by anything you tell Him? God knows us so well, He knows our everything down to the smallest detail and still He loves us and yet somehow we think that we can keep things from Him. Oh how weary our backs become for so unnecessary a burden. Jesus bore all our sin and shame on that cross, He has joined us into a personal relationship with Him for the very purpose of us never having to walk this walk on our own. He also promises us that nothing can ever separate us from His unfailing love.

"For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come,  nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."
Romans 8:38-39

Why not cast all your cares on Him, no matter how ashamed you may feel, He is so much bigger than any of those things and He cares so very much for you. I can guarantee, that your "Mold" problem won't seem nearly as bad as you first thought. Forget about trying to always be independent, when we trust in Jesus it means we have finally come to realize that we are in need and we are dependent on Him, on His grace, His love and His truth that is the only thing that sets us free. Jesus is the only cure for this Moldy world.
