‘The just shall live by faith’ (Habakkuk 2:4)

Have you ever considered what it means to have faith in something or some person?   The Concise Oxford Dictionary defines faith as ‘complete trust and confidence’

As Christian believers we are called upon by God to have trust and confidence in Him completely and utterly without holding back anything – in other words despite the fact that we cannot see Him, we are to believe and trust in Him implicitly.

The fallen world in which we live will tell you that this faith and trust in a God we cannot see is foolishness and we are living deluded lives.   But remember that the world’s yardstick is based on materialistic philosophy – if you can see it, touch it, feel it only then can you believe it.   Materialistic belief however brings very little solace and absolutely no hope – people still become ill and die but the world has few answers.

If we look around however, we see a natural world that functions because of a basic orderliness which could only have been created by a much higher and infinite mind – namely a Creator God.   The mysteries of life after death the world cannot answer but God has answered these and revealed them in His Word the Bible.

The scriptures call upon us to believe in Christ and He who sent Him.   Without faith we cannot do this.

Answers to life and death are found only in God, the God of the Bible.   He gives the only logical and rational explanation to all of this and what is happening in the world today.

What does this all mean to us as Christian believers living in the world today then?   We need to examine ourselves and ask the question – do we sincerely believe and trust God for things in our lives?   The answer to this has to be yes – 100% yes!  Anything less than this will not be sufficient.

The scripture says ‘the just (or righteous) shall live by faith’ (Habakkuk 2 : 4) and ‘without faith it is impossible to please Him’ (Hebrews 11 : 6).   The Bible also says: ‘we walk by faith not by sight’ (2 Corinthians 5 : 7).   God asks that we have faith in Him always despite what may be going on around us.

Faith is the bedrock on which we live for Christ.   Let us therefore examine ourselves and make sure that we have one hundred percent faith in Him in all that we do or think.   We are people of faith and we need to make sure we act like it in this sin sick world in which we live.
