But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
If you take the average saturday night activities of a group of 20-30 somethings in our soceity today, non-Christians of course. The objective is to go out, get drunk have a 'good' time and perhaps end up sleeping with a stranger in order to feel some form of fulfilment. You are probably saying to yourself "that does not happen!". Oh, yes it does. Maybe as the years progress, there are new alures which pop onto the scene. Perhaps it's waiting for the next bug video game to be released. Maybe it's movies or musical interests; going to see your favourite secular band perform live. These are all alright in moderation, but they can so easily make us enemies of God; friends of the world.
When we refuse to do away with sin that we know we commit, or continue in, we are telling God that we prefer to do things the worlds way. The bible tells us this (James 4:4) "You adulterous people, don't you know that friendship with the world is hatred toward God? Anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God". Yes, many sins seem so good to us, and to do away with them would seem like we would be missing out on so much. But God has promised that there are far better things for us if we follow him. Sin always holds guilt, it carries with it a secret knowlege that we have done wrong by our creator, and no matter how much we try to hide that fact, it still remains. We need to put God first before anything else. Don't expect to grow as a Christain if you are not placing your King where He should be; first.
