Before you read the verses below, ask yourself the question "Who is this Jesus who comes to live in us?" Now with that question in mind:
Colossians 1:15-18
15He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. 17He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. 18And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy.
Paul writes to a church in need of reminding who they serve. Paul gives us accounts of what Jesus has done, he reminds us how powerful Christ is. Like the church at Collose, many of the churches in today's world have forgotten just who we serve. Paul's reminders are as vital for us today as they were for that early church. They ensure we don't fall into a dreamy state of luke-warm, dull and oftentimes dry Christianity, so long as we look into his message and apply it to our lives. As J.B. Phillips quoted some years ago, "Our God is too small".
Sometimes we don't remind ourselves who we serve, other times we aren't willing to be the sevants we are called to be. We value our time reading a book, or watching TV more than spending time with the Lord. If we are willing to be servants of God, there is no stopping the spread of the gospel. Meditate on Christ, become saturated with who you are serving, He lives in you if you are a Christian and he can use you to change the world. Let us each one go out today with a new fervour to know the Lord and follow him anew.
